Panama Partnership

Virginia Baptists launched a new partnership with the churches of Panama, and teams from Gayton helped pave the way over these past few years.

Since May of 2011, we have sent more than 60 team members to Panama to serve in construction, kids camps and in support of the pastors and their families.

We are excited to continue building relationships and fellowshipping with our brothers and sisters in Panama.

Summer Missions Internship Opportunities in Peru

Friend,

Well, Donna and I are finally moving to the city of Ayacucho. And there is an opportunity for individuals to serve as summer interns during the month of July there. College students and those older qualify, even married couples.

South America Mission and The Ayacucho Initiative are putting together a team to do research of the Quechua people here in Peru through the meeting of people (cultural helpers), asking questions, and recording their responses all in a friendly manner. As Jesus and Paul knew the Jewish culture to reach the Jews better(John 1:14, Matt. 15:24, 1 Cor. 9:19ff, so we think it is important to understand the Quechua better to apply the gospel to them.

Do you know of a Christ follower (or couple) who might be interested in doing something like this here in the mountains of Peru?

You could direct these people to the South American Mission website and fill out the form under the tab “Apply Now!” This would not obligate them, but will get things moving.

If you have further questions or comments, let me know.

Discerning the Potential for Mission Partnerships

Exploring God’s Leadership in the World

“Wherever He Leads I’ll Go!” The words are from an old hymn that has characterized the commitment of missionaries to go wherever God leads. The Gayton Missions Council is seeking God’s leadership about where He is leading us as a church to share the Gospel.  We are exploring three areas:

Continued ministry in Panama – We have been a part of six-year partnership in Panama. The official partnership has officially concluded but there are many Gayton members who continue to maintain relationships and a vision for ongoing ministry.

Exploring Peru – Former Gayton members Rick and Donna Martin spent two years at Gayton just prior to moving to the mountains of Peru where they will be planting a church in Huanta. Gayton is an active financial partner in their ministry. The Martins have expressed a desire to have Gayton join with them in some ministry projects. A vision trip to Peru is currently planned for September to evaluate the opportunities and potential for a hands-on partnership. If you are interested in going please contact Jim Riddell at jim.riddell@gmail.com. Please pray that God will lead that team in discerning the Lord’s will.

Wherever He leads…should we engage in one ministry, two or all three? Please pray that God will give us a clear sense of His leadership.

“…I tell you, open your eyes and look at the fields! They are ripe for harvest. Even now the one who reaps draws a wage and harvests a crop for eternal life…” John 4:35-36
