It’s Tuesday, and we are loving the warm weather , the waffles and fresh fruit in Panama!! We have had three full days since arriving late Saturday night. When we left Richmond Saturday morning it was approximately 9 degrees and when we landed in Panama City at 8:00 it was approximately 80 degrees. The Lord blessed with us with safe travel and 12 suitcases ( which is what we had when we left Richmond)
Sunday, Jan. 7th report:
We were picked up at the hotel at 8:30 AM and transported to the church to participate in church services. For some on our team it was a great reunion to see Christian brothers and sisters at First Baptist Pedregal. Jason and Whitney were introduced and quickly became part of the family. It is amazing to be a part of the Lord’s Church and feel His holy spirit even in spite of the language barrier. The remainder of day was used to prepare for the week by resting and getting materials ready for the VBS crafts. We were picked up later in the evening to attend the evening church service. After church the team spent time reconnecting with friends and making new ones.
Monday, Jan. 8th report:
First day of VBS!! This day was fun filled for all at First Baptist Pedregal in the morning and mission churches in the afternoon! We were all excited to get started.
At First Baptist Pedregal, our team was given specific assignments-Jason and Cindy were assigned classrooms specific to preschool and teenagers, while Dale, Angela, Jim and Tony were assigned craft duty for all ages, and Whitney was assigned recreation duty and spent time with groups of kids outside. The first day of VBS Pedregal, approximately 75 kids attended, and it was a great start to kick off the Galactic Starveyors theme.
Ladies from the church provide lunch for the VBS team in preparation for going out to the mission churches.
In the afternoon the team was divided at helped provide crafts for two mission churches. Cindy and Angela worked with approximately 65 kids and Jim, Dale, Jason, Tony and Whitney had approx. 35 kids at that location. Jason and Whitney experienced true Panama culture and took advantage of the opportunity to drink coconut water from a tree.
Tuesday, Jan. 9th report:
We all woke refreshed and ready to begin a new day. It was exciting to get to church so we can see new friends and share with each other. Each team member is working hard to communicate and get to know the children. The pictures below are a collection of experiences thus far. The children have enjoyed the crafts that we have shared and the number of students at each church VBS has increased. Our team is even enjoying “dancing” and singing the VBS theme song… perhaps we will share it with you when we return. :)
